stray thoughts

ideals are no longer ideals if you can live up to them

truth is so precious that it should only be given out sparingly

I don’t describe myself as an atheist just as I don’t describe myself as an aunicornist. It’s up to theists to defend their nonsensical views: there’s no need to defend not believing the unbelievable.

On 2 occasions I have rescued damsels in distress from the clutches of an evil dragon. On one occasion the damsel turned into a dragon; on the other she changed her mind and decided to go off with the dragon.

Far from old age conferring wisdom it simply gives old codgers the pathetic belief that they can come up with any old trite sentimental twaddle and it will be treated as profound. Experience is never going to put in what wasn’t there before.

“Nothing should be clung to, least of all yourself. Nothing should be despised, not even yourself”

“Life is like falling out of a plane. At first you think you can fly. Then you believe you have a parachute. Only when you are three quarters of the way down down you discover you haven’t.”

“Life is too short to worry about life being too short”

“Democracy means that every few years you get the chance to choose which bunch of crooks will do the opposite of what you want them to do”

“God in his infinite wisdom create man with a penis which grows erect when excited. God in his wisdom also decided to use the same part of the anatomy for the necessary expulsion of body fluids. God in his even more infinite wisdom decided that man in the middle of the night would be simultaneously aroused and needing to urinate. Now would you worship someone whose idea of a cool trick was to get a guy to pee on his girl-friend’s ceiling at 2am ?”

“If I can’t be happy I’m bloody well going to enjoy being unhappy”

Be free in your chains, not chained to your freedom

Snap! I am soon to post a piece that makes to same point though less succinctly 😦

    Cheers,
