Police ban widow’s sign after 31 years

July 29, 2006

A widow was told by police to remove a notice on her fence which read: “Our dogs are fed on Jehovah’s Witnesses.” The sign had hung on Jean Groves fence for thirty-one years without complaint. The police said it was ‘distressing and offensive and inappropriate’.
Hats off to the brave action of the Hampshire police. The damage that can be done by thieves, rapists and muggers pales in
comparison with the distress caused by this vile notice. No doubt it caused severe bouts of pre marital tension, migraines, post-traumatic stress disorder and uncontrollable sobbing. I imagine innocent passers-by had to be taken to emergency counselling before being interviewed by ITV and the poor Witnesses, who even Jehova could not console, suffered acute manic depression and had to spend the rest of their lives in a mental institution. On relfexion, this, unlike the notice, might well be entirely appropriate.
