Another tactic for successful communication a la Blair:

Don’t say your sorry, or if you have to, don’t say what you’re sorry for, or if you do say what you’re sorry for, make it somethig inoccuous, trivial or irrelevant
“We do say sorry for all those people who have died, but I cannot apologize for taking the country to war.”
