dictionary of Blairspeak

August 10, 2006

Some common Blairspeak terms with their English translation:

“exciting and innovative”= it’s been a total shambles but we can’t kill it off yet

“it was a hard decision to take”= I goofed and I know it
“I do not doubt there are people who disagree in the system”= one day I’ll find someone who agrees with me
“The idea X and I are at odds over this is complete rubbish. We have been at one”= we almost came to blows

“The figures we gave were not as robust as we would have liked”= we made them up and they turned out to be completely wrong

The intelligence … is extensive, detailed and authoritative.” There were a few rumours going round and the rest I made up.
