snakes alive

August 28, 2006

Did you realize that, according to Wilkipaedia, this emotional intelligence thing that ministers are being coached in is a function of a part of the human brain called the reptilian brain (because it has similar functions to those of reptiles)? “The brain stem is the oldest and smallest region in the evolving human brain. Its impulses are instinctual and ritualistic. The reptilian brain focuses on survival It keeps repeating the same behaviours over and over again, never admitting or learning from past mistakes.” I wonder whether the Prime Minister has been consciously developing his reptilian brain of late. All that stuff about relying on his instinct, fighting to keep hold of his job… Reminds me of how Alexander Pope described one of his contemporaries: “a cherub’s face, a reptile all the rest.”

Yes, but the reptilian brain is also associated with conservatism and resisting change so your hypothesis doesn’t hold up.
