Shetland tourist board announcement

September 1, 2006

There’s a different world waiting for you in Shetland….
A world where wildlife is truly wild, where otters and seals play in quiet coves, and the air is full of the sound of local menfolk jumping off the jagged cliffs. Shetlanders have a deep sense of belonging and tradition. Generations of Shetlanders have taken part in the local sport of ‘topping themselves.’

“SCOTS are twice as likely to kill themselves as the English, figures show, the highest number of male suicides being in the Shetland Islands.”
